The Disney theme parks are constantly changing. It’s part of Walt’s legacy! Walt Disney himself said that Disneyland will never be complete as long as there is still magic and imagination left in the world, and we certainly see that at the theme parks these days.

Even though there are some Disney park changes that fans aren’t so happy about, there’s a lot on the horizon that we’re so excited to see. Here are the new things coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World that we totally stan. Let’s jump into the new attractions coming to Disney!

Splash Mountain Retheme

New Walt Disney World and Disneyland Rides - Princess and the Frog Splash Mountain Retheme
Disney announced in summer 2020 that Splash Mountain at Disneyland and Magic Kingdom will be undergoing a major transformation — and we’re thrilled about it. Soon, the attraction will be completely rethemed to The Princess and the Frog, picking up on Tiana’s story where the 2009 animated film left off.

Disney’s first Black princess deserves so much more than a rethemed attraction, but we’re still thrilled that this experience will soon come to Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The Disney company and Imagineers working on this project have shared the importance of bringing more representation and diversity to the theme parks. We will never say no to more Princess Tiana in the parks! We can’t wait to see the Princess and the Frog come to Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Downtown Disney Renovations and the Disneyland Expansion

Downtown Disney Update New Walt Disney World and Disneyland Rides
There are a couple of significant Disney park changes on the West Coast that we’re total fans of: the multi-year renovations to the Downtown Disney District and the newly proposed DisneylandForward project. Each of these projects will bring fresh energy to Disneyland Resort — and we love what we’ve heard about so far.

DisneylandForward is the proposed expansion project that is still in the very early stages of planning; it will need to get approved by the City of Anaheim before Disney can begin! But we’re very excited about the possible new lands, attractions, and adventures that it may bring. You can read all about it here

The changes coming to Downtown Disney, on the other hand, are already underway! Disney is remodeling the west end of Downtown Disney to bring new shopping, dining, and entertainment offerings to the district. Per the OC Register, the remodel will have a “Southern California midcentury modern architectural style incorporating a multicultural design aesthetic.” Right now, we don’t know what exactly the new offerings will be, but we’re excited for more to come to Downtown Disney that will allow guests to experience the magic without needing a theme park ticket.

TRON in Tomorrowland

Another huge change is the highly anticipated TRON Lightcycle / Run. Let’s be real. Who isn’t stoked for TRON to arrive at Walt Disney World?

TRON Lightcycle / Run will be epic — we already know this based on the attraction’s success at Shanghai Disneyland! But this Disney park change at Magic Kingdom signals so much more than that. TRON will breathe new life into an area of the park that really needs it. Tomorrowland doesn’t feel like a land of the future anymore, and it shows. Adding a futuristic attraction like TRON will usher in a new era for Tomorrowland, bringing a new look to the expanded part of the land in addition to new thrills.

Is it time to enter the grid yet? Because we can’t wait. Walt Disney World’s roller coasters are incredibly popular and TRON will be no exception. We’ll share an opening date as soon as it’s announced!

MagicBands at Disneyland

New Walt Disney World and Disneyland Rides Magic Bands
It’s finally happening. MagicBands are coming to Disneyland Resort. and we’re here for it.

Disney announced a few months back that MagicBand technology will be coming to Disneyland. This will allow guests to use MagicBands to access their theme park admission, hotel room key, credit card, and more, much like they do at Walt Disney World. Right now, we aren’t too sure about all of the features that Disneyland MagicBands will have, but we’re excited about all of the possibilities. Stay tuned because this new tech is coming to Disneyland Resort in 2022.

More Attractions in EPCOT

Okay, so nobody likes Wallcot (fans’ affectionate name for construction wall-filled EPCOT right now). But we’re happy that it means this Walt Disney World theme park is getting some much-needed TLC.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure opened in 2021 and kicked off the trend of more attractions coming to EPCOT. Work is progressing on the new Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind roller coaster. Disney is also planning to open a Moana-themed walkthrough attraction sometime in the next few years. This park is going through a lot of changes, and hopefully, more are coming soon. We love to see it!
