Over a year ago at the 2019 D23 Expo Disney announced their “Revolutionary New Digital Offering” called Disney Genie. Since then there hasn’t been much more said about Disney Genie as other Disney headlines have (rightfully so) overshadowed this announcement. While Disney Genie may not be a trending topic at the moment, it is definitely going to play a role in our future trips to WDW.
Disney Genie is a digital tool that will “make planning easier and more fun by providing customized itineraries geared to your interests, right at your fingertips.” So, what does this mean? Imagine a more thorough and personal version of My Disney Experience. Based on your preferences, Disney Genie will tell you what you should do and when you should do it. Do you want to be a princess for a day? There is a guided plan for that. What about exploring conservation at Animal Kingdom? You can customize your day to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Once you pick a plan you will be able re-optimize it as you go to help make your day more efficient. The Genie App will also send you real time updates and tips to help you navigate the parks.
Although Disney Genie was announced months before the Coronavirus Pandemic, there is no doubt this app will shape how we visit the parks post-pandemic. Disney Genie can be used by Disney to control crowds and redirect guests away from congested locations in real time. It is possible that once it launches Disney Genie will be home to park reservations as well as your daily plans. One thing that indicates this is that Disney has not incorporated their park reservation system fully into My Disney Experience. Right now, if you want to make a park reservation on MDE, it will launch the Disney World website.
With so many possibilities for Disney Genie we can’t wait to see what it can do. Would you try a plan on Disney Genie? Let us know in the comments!
