In an announcement shared via Twitter, Walt Disney Studios shared that the much anticipated movie Soul will be released exclusively on Disney Plus on December 25, 2020. Originally slated for a theatrical release on November 20, 2020, Soul will follow the most recent streaming release Mulan to the service. In light of movie theaters continuing to struggle in their efforts to reopen, this wasn’t very unexpected.
Unlike Mulan, which cost an additional $30 upon its release, Soul will be released to all Disney Plus subscribers at no additional charge. With a holiday release date, we’re excited to see Soul making its way to our screens.
In a press release, Bob Chapek, CEO of the Walt Disney Company, said a few words on the film, “We are thrilled to share Pixar’s spectacular and moving Soul with audiences direct to Disney+ in December. A new original Pixar film is always a special occasion, and this truly heartwarming and humorous story about human connection and finding one’s place in the world will be a treat for families to enjoy together this holiday season.”
