It’s June, which means it’s officially Pride Month! We’re all about celebrating LGBTQIA+ Pride every day of the year — especially at the Disney parks, which should be places where everyone is welcome, no matter your gender or sexuality. But this month, especially, we want to encourage our LGBTQIA+ readers and allies to be bold and be you when you show up to the theme parks. This season, you can do so in a rainbow Mickey t-shirt.

Disney just dropped the Disney Pride merchandise collection, and we’ve got to talk about it. You don’t have to wear anything in particular to show your pride — you can, and should, come as you are. But for Disney superfans who want to add that touch of pixie dust to their Pride Month looks, the new clothing, and accessories collection is positively magical. Here’s the scoop on the 2022 Disney Pride Collection and how you can celebrate Pride at the theme parks.

About the 2022 Disney Pride Collection

Every year for the past few years, Disney has released a line of rainbow merchandise right around Pride Month, but this year, it’s different. In the past, it was called the Rainbow Collection, and it did not include any Pride-specific language. It was assumed to be an LGBTQIA+ Pride line of products, but it never fully committed to screaming “Gay Rights.” That is, until now.

The merchandise collection was officially rebranded as the Disney Pride Collection this year. As Disney shared in a blog post, the collection of rainbow-adorned clothing and accessories was “dreamed up and designed by members and allies of the community, for members and allies of the community.” This year, the company also announced that profits from the collection would benefit GLSEN, PFLAG, The Trevor Project, Zebra Coalition, Los Angeles LGBT Center, LGBTQ Center Orange County, San Francisco LGBT Center, and Ali Forney Center, as well as other local organizations in communities all around the world. In the wake of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill, officially rebranding the collection to be Pride-specific — and donating the profits from the sales of the collection to LGBTQIA+ organizations in the US and beyond — is more than appropriate. It’s necessary. The merchandise is loud, it’s proud, and we hope it’s not going anywhere.

Pride Collection on shopDisney: What to Buy

Several items in the Disney Pride Collection are available online on shopDisney.com, so naturally, we’re here to share our recs. But Disney also said to be on the lookout for more product drops throughout Pride Month; if nothing has caught your eye yet, hopefully, a later release will!

We love the Pride pins this year, which feature the colors of the intersectional Pride, transgender, bisexual, and lesbian flags. It’s great to see Disney pins becoming more inclusive, and we hope to see even more flags represented in the future.

Two more products we’re loving are the woven Mickey Mouse button-down and shorts. These don’t come in a matching set, but wearing them together is so on-trend, and the embroidered rainbow Mickeys are adorable for Pride Month and beyond. The shorts are available in an XS to an XXL, but the shirt is more inclusive and runs up to a 3X. Hopefully, Disney will release more sizes over time.

We also love this sling bag! It features the same mini-Mickeys as the shirt and shorts mentioned above, which can work with multiple outfits. It has an adjustable crossbody strap and can fit all of your park day essentials. We’re not always the biggest fans of Disney bags, but we love the simple style and effortless versatility of this one. Plus, if you can’t already tell, we can’t get enough of rainbow Mickey.

Finally, your furry friend can show their pride, too, with this collar and leash set. We totally love this design, and it honestly might be our favorite product in the collection. Catch us trying to train our cats to walk on a leash so we can justify this rainbow purchase. (Although, let’s be real, do we ever need to justify spoiling our pets? We think not!)

Pride Events at the Parks

There are other ways to celebrate Pride at the Disney parks than just buying Disney-official pride merchandise. Actually, even though we love expressing ourselves through fashion, we’re also all about sharing opportunities to find community within this theme park fandom.

We’re so thrilled to share that Disneyland Paris is bringing back its Pride event in less than two weeks! Disneyland Paris is hosting a Pride celebration this month. On June 11, Walt Disney Studios Park will host a Pride event featuring live performances, a dance party, a rainbow parade, Disney characters in colorful outfits, a lip sync battle, and more. Among this year’s performers is Bilal Hassani, a French singer-songwriter who is considered one of the most influential people in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Hopefully, sometime in the future, Disneyland and Walt Disney World in the US will host Pride events like at Disneyland Paris. We’d love to see it!

For now, though, those wanting to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride during an event not hosted by Disney (officially) can do so at Gay Days. Gay Days Orlando is actually happening right now! This week, you can participate in #RedShirtDays at the Orlando theme parks — including Magic Kingdom this Saturday, June 4 — and attend special events and the expo at Avanti Palms Resort Orlando. For more information, see the schedule of events here.

Gay Days Anaheim is back in just a few months. From September 16-18, 2022, you can “watch the Happiest Place on Earth become the gayest” as you don your red shirt and take to the theme parks. Gay Days meetups will be hosted at Disneyland, Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and Downtown Disney all weekend long as Disney fans celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride and find community in one of the most magical places. Walt Disney World Pride Walls

We love visiting Disney parks for the magic, but let’s be real, we love a good photo op. Walt Disney World added some Instagram-worthy walls in the theme parks specifically for Pride month, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about them! This year, you can find a Pride-themed wall in each of the four parks. The wall pictured above is at EPCOT, but each backdrop is unique, so you can hop from park to park to find them all. We hope these stick around long after Pride Month!

Disney shared a blog post about celebrating Pride at Disney World for the month of June — which includes some PhotoPass tips and other recommendations — and you can read more here.

Celebrate Pride 365

Here at Perfecting the Magic, we’re saying “gay” — loud and proud. We want to encourage you to celebrate Pride 365 days a year at the theme parks, regardless of if there’s an event going on or not. At the happiest, most magical places on earth, you should be able to come as you are and live out your dreams. That includes feeling comfortable in your own skin and living your truth, whether that means you’re rocking the rainbow Mickey look or not.

So, we hope you celebrate Pride Month this month and every month, and you remember that whenever you set foot in a Disney park, the magic is meant for you
