Getting through self-isolation has been rough on us all, so we decided to dissect how one Disney princess got through 18 lonely years in a stone tower. Because let’s face it: if Rapunzel from Tangled knows one thing – its social distancing. Did we mention she lives in a kingdom named Corona? (Seriously.)
We gleaned all the most important lessons from “When Will My Life Begin” and – turns out Rapunzel’s strategies for getting through self-isolation are well, perfect.
keep a routine
“Seven a.m., the usual morning lineup”
Rapunzel knows the importance of a regular schedule. We’ve found that waking up and falling asleep at the same time each day has helped us create a sense of routine. A 7 AM start time puts Rapunzel up early but allows her a late enough bedtime to get in a solid 8 hours.
stay ahead of chores
“Start on the chores and sweep ’till the floor’s all clean. Polish and wax, do laundry, and mop and shine up.”
The temptation to let messes pile up when social distancing is huge. Rapunzel stays on top of her household chores by getting straight to cleaning after waking up. This means she starts every day with a fresh, clean castle. We’ve been tidying up messes before they get out of hand and feeling much happier in our space because of it.
Have a Hobby
“So I’ll read a book Or maybe two or three. I’ll add a few new paintings to my gallery. I’ll play guitar and knit.”
Rapunzel is absolutely all over this whole hobbies thing. Now is an excellent time to be like the princess and add a new skill in like playing an instrument, painting, or even a language. We’ve picked up a few different hobbies while at home and are seeing which ones “stick!”
Keep Active
“Then I’ll stretch, maybe sketch, take a climb”
Physical activity! Rapunzel gets in a stretch every day and sometimes even an indoor hike. We’ve been scheduling time to reap the positive mind/benefits from exercise and have been feeling much healthier and happier!
Groom & Get dressed
“And then I’ll brush and brush And brush and brush my hair”
Did Rapunzel walk around in a bathrobe all day? Heck no. Rapunzel groomed every day despite not even having a Zoom call to jump on. We’ve found small things like putting on makeup and getting dressed for the day means a better headspace all day long.
And of course, let’s not forget that a haircut from Rapunzel’s significant other turned out pretty darn well. You give us hope, Rapunzel! What new habits have you picked up during the stay at home order? Let us know in the comments below.
