Tale as old as time…fashion just as old. Its time to update Belle’s look! Inspired by our recent chat with Leslie Kay from The Disneybound, we decided to take on a Perfecting The Magic styling challenge. Look no further for your perfect blue dress Belle Disneybound! We’re bringing this iconic look from the princess from Beauty and the Beast into the 21st century. Here’s how you can pull together an envy-worthy, wig snatching, super chic Belle bound of your own!
Our Disneybound Inspiration
Our Bound
Summer is here, so we opted for a lightweight Disneybound outfit that can still easily transition from day to nighttime. This look will have ready to meet your own princely beast while strolling park or out to an alfresco dinner! Of course, this look wouldn’t be complete without a book or two tucked under your arm too. Luckily those never go out of style!
The Dress
We drew inspiration from Belle’s apron and dress combination. We updated it to a chic mini dress that captures both the signature colors and square neckline (minus the farmwear.) If you invest in one item for this bound, make it this! Many other pieces can easily be swapped for replacements in your own closet. Bound aside, this cotton halter dress will fit in fabulously into your summer wardrobe and features our favorite new trend, tie-dye. Show Me Your Mumu tends to run small, so we recommend sizing up. We love this striped number and more traditional royal blue skater dress as alternate options!
The Cardigan
No need to get fancy here, practically any white cardigan you have will do the trick! The longer the sleeve, the more evocative it will be of Belle’s blouse. We used a summer-friendly cotton jacket from Ted Baker, which works perfectly as a layering piece. The only key here when picking yours? Look for a clean white cardigan that won’t distract. We picked out a few in a range of price points.
The Bag
Belle sports a basket to carry all of her goods from the market. Let’s make our bag fabulously summer while still getting the feel of Belle’s original tote! We paired our outfit with a no longer available Buji Baja bag, but this TopShop pick is almost identical! The straw handles make the bag French market side ready while losing all the bulk. Looking for something higher-end? Pamela Munson’s playful take on a picnic basket also caught our eye as a fabulous addition to this Disneybound!
The Shoes
Black simple flats will complete your look perfectly! This is another excellent item to source from your closet to keep wallets happy! We opted for a pair with a subtle patent stripe from Schutz, but truthfully you can’t go wrong with most picks here. Choose a pair with either a small heel or none at all, and if you’re in the market for a long-lasting wardrobe addition, consider the Stuart Weitzman’s.
Accessories
Accessories are some of our favorite parts of bounds. Beauty and the Beast offers up so many options! Swap any of these pieces in or out of your look to add some extra magical touches. For our outfit, we traded a blue silk handkerchief for Belle’s bow, and opted for red hoop earrings to playfully nod to the red rose. We love the idea of incorporating roses into a pair of stud earrings or necklace too!
