Choosing a hotel at Walt Disney World can be frustrating. Especially for families. There’s a lot to consider, and while WDW offers some of the most immersive hotel experiences around, staying on property doesn’t make sense for everyone. Many feel their time is better spent in the parks and prefer to book a hotel adjacent to Walt Disney World instead. If this sounds like you, we’ve created a list of five of the best hotels near Walt Disney World for families on a budget.

Let’s look into them!

Near Walt Disney World and Perfect for Families

Candlewood Suites Orlando, Lake Buena Vista

(12341 Winter Garden Vineland Rd, Lake Buena Vista, FL)

The first hotel on our recommendation list is one that surprised us. The Candlewood Suites Orlando is a brand-new offering in the Walt Disney World area, just two minutes outside the WDW gates. While this hotel doesn’t offer breakfast and its shuttles are infrequent, it provides squeaky-clean digs, spacious rooms complete with full kitchens, free parking, laundry, and proximity to amenities that make it a standout.

Disney Springs is just a three-minute drive away, and Target is only eight minutes away, which is unbelievably helpful when you need supplies. With ample dining (both Disney and otherwise) minutes away, it’s the perfect choice for families who prefer to drive (or Uber) into the parks for flexibility. While there are no fireworks views to be found here, many families prefer to watch them up close and personal in the parks anyway.

What makes this Candlewood Suites worth checking out is the space it provides, especially its two-bedroom suites, which are notably larger than expected. With separate living rooms and bathrooms attached to each bedroom, it’s perfect for families with older children and teens who value personal space.

The Candlewood Suites Orlando is an ideal hotel near Walt Disney World for families on a budget. Current rates range from $132 for a two-queen suite to $389 per night for a two-bedroom apartment-style suite that comfortably sleeps six. You can find their site here if you’d like to book a reservation.

The Best Hotels at Flamingo Crossings

The hotels at Flamingo Crossings in Winter Garden, Florida, have received a lot of buzz for good reason. The properties are just minutes from the Walt Disney World Disney parks and are some of the most affordable in the area.

We’re sharing three of our picks to help you decide which (if any) is right for you!

TownePlace Suites Orlando at Flamingo Crossings

(13295 Hartzog Rd, Winter Garden, FL)

The TownePlace Suites Orlando at Flamingo Crossings is located less than a mile from WDW’s western entrance, and about a 12-14-minute drive to the Disney theme parks, depending on traffic. What makes this property a standout is both its location and kitchen amenities.

Featuring a full-size refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, and microwave, it’s an excellent choice for families that would like the freedom of a kitchen during their Walt Disney World stay. While some reviews are mixed, and (infrequent) issues have come up in reviews over the years, it maintains a solid 4/5 overall ranking on Yelp, with many families citing it as their go-to hotel for off-property stays.

With free parking, complimentary breakfast, a large pool, an onsite restaurant, and free laundry, it’s easy to see why. If you’re planning on spending most of your time in the parks and don’t mind a hotel that’s a few years old, this could be a smart choice. A fireworks view room with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa in Fall 2022 will only run you roughly $144 a night, making it a great budget hotel option for families. If you’d like to book a stay at the TownePlace Suites Orlando at Flamingo Crossings, you can find their booking website here

Residence Inn by Marriott Orlando at Flamingo Crossings

(2111 Flagler Avenue, Winter Garden, FL)

The Residence Inn by Marriott Orlando at Flamingo Crossings is a brand-new hotel that recently made itself onto our PTM radar. The suites, which read like little apartments, feature fully equipped kitchens with stainless steel appliances, separate living room spaces for stretching out, complimentary grocery delivery services, a fitness center, heated pool, daily breakfast, and a poolside bar!

There’s a lot to love here, especially for families, and we’re partial to new properties as they haven’t experienced the same wear and tear of older hotels. With free parking, daily housekeeping, and onsite laundry, we can see why this Residence Inn is quickly becoming a favorite.

It doesn’t hurt that it’s just 12-minutes from the WDW parks, either. If we were choosing a Flamingo Crossings property in 2022 for a family stay, this would be at the top of our list. A two-queen bed suite in Fall 2022 is currently going for $224 a night. If you’d like a two-bedroom suite with a king bed and two queens in an adjoining room, the rate increases to $319 a night, but you can’t beat the space! Homewood Suites by Hilton Orlando at Flamingo Crossings

(411 Flagler Ave, Winter Garden, FL)

The Homewood Suites by Hilton Orlando at Flamingo Crossings has serious fans! Boasting a ton of recent five-star reviews on Trip Advisor and a 4.5/5 overall, guests love it for its 10-minute proximity to Walt Disney World, spotlessness, complimentary breakfast (complete with Mickey Waffles!), free parking, pool, laundry, and spacious rooms. While these suites do not include a kitchen, we realize that not every family wants to cook during their vacation and we like to provide options to those who don’t.

If cooking in your suite isn’t something you’re looking for, this is an ideal choice. Besides, the proximity to some of WDW’s finest dining makes up for it. If your family is made up of serious foodies who want nothing more than to try everything WDW has to offer, we think this would be the perfect hotel near Walt Disney World for you. A two-queen suite is currently priced at $175 a night for fall 2022, which we think is quite reasonable for everything it offers! Best Upcoming Hotel Near Walt Disney World

Drury Plaza Hotel, Lake Buena Vista (Opens Fall 2022)

(2000 Hotel Plaza Blvd, Lake Buena Vista, FL)

Set to open in late October 2022, the Drury Plaza Hotel is anticipated to be a solid option for families. If you look into the reviews, you’ll see that they need major improvement. However, that’s because the Google reviews are for a previous Best Western property that stood in the space before it was purchased by Drury and underwent a complete overhaul! An official Walt Disney World hotel, the Drury Plaza will feature 602 guest rooms, event space, a 24-hour fitness center, daily breakfast, resort-style pool, splash pad, and an on-property bar and grill while being in walking distance of Disney Springs.

If you select this property, you can expect shuttle transportation to all Walt Disney World theme parks and benefits associated with it not only being a hotel near Walt Disney World, but a hotel with the official seal of WDW approval, which will include perks like early park entry, optional fireworks views, and the ability to book the hotel as part of a vacation package. On paper, everything sounds great, and we look forward to seeing the Drury Plaza in action for ourselves once it opens!

It’s likely to be an excellent choice for families, and we love a new hotel! There’s something about fresh paint, fresh beds, and a fresh pool that can’t be overstated. We think this is a great one to try if you’re open to taking a chance on a new WDW-affiliated property. We found that the price for a room with two queen beds and a sleeper sofa in October 2022 was around $238 a night, including a fireworks view, which is quite reasonable for families on a budget looking for WDW perks. If interested, you can book the Drury Plaza Hotel here
