2020 is coming to an end and the new year is almost here! This year, many people had to cancel or postpone their trips to Disney as parks around the globe closed for record lengths of time. A lot of planned attraction openings have been delayed or canceled as Disney responds to these unprecedented events. 2020 is about to become a thing of the past, so let’s look forward to what new attractions you can expect to see at Disney Parks in 2021!

Disneyland

What new rides are opening at Disneyland in 2021?

Disney California Adventure

“Team up with the Avengers – Explore a Campus Created for the Next Generation of Super-Heroes” at the new Avengers Campus in Disneyland! Originally slated for a July 2020 opening, the Avengers Campus is now said to be opening in 2021. The 6-acre superhero campus is being built in what used to be A Bug’s Land. The campus will feature 2 rides when it opens. The first is Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission Breakout which will be encompassed by the land. WEB Slingers: A Spiderman Adventure will open with the land. This e-ticket attraction will be a dark ride that allows guests to shoot webs at interactive screens. Phase 2 of the Avengers Campus project is expected to include a third attraction. This ride was originally said to be Black Panther and Wakanda-themed, but little has been mentioned about this addition since the Coivd-19 delays. If we do see a third attraction, it won’t be in 2021.

Disneyland Park

There is nothing new slated for Disneyland Park in 2021 but Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be coming to California in 2022!

Walt Disney World

October 1st, 2021 marks the 50th anniversary of the Magic Kingdom and The Walt Disney World Resort. Disney is opening new attractions to celebrate this milestone!

Hollywood Studios

What New Rides are Coming to Disney World in 2021? The Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser hotel

No new attractions are opening at Hollywood Studios in 2021, as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway are still practically brand new. Next year may see the opening of Roundup Rodeo BBQ, a table service restaurant in Toy Story Land that was originally planned for 2020. While technically not an attraction, we can’t leave out Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser! The immersive Star Wars hotel is now scheduled to open in 2021!

Animal Kingdom

Not much new is going on at Animal Kingdom. With the 2017 opening of Pandora: The World of Avatar the park is done with major updates for now. The only notable change you can expect to see to Animal Kingdom in 2021 is an update to the entrance that will improve the arrival experience ahead of the 50th-anniversary crowds.

Magic Kingdom

What New Rides Are Coming to Disney World in 2021? Tron: Lightcycle Power Run coaster

The original WDW park will see a few new additions in 2021. Tron: Lightcycle Power Run is coming to Tomorrowland, though the timeline is unclear. The motorbike rollercoaster is the top-rated attraction at Shanghai Disneyland and was originally scheduled to open for the Magic Kingdom’s 50th anniversary. Recent rumors indicate that progress on the attraction has been delayed and Tron may not open until 2022. Disney has not made an official statement on the opening of the ride but did not include it when recently outlining their priority projects for the parks. You can expect one attraction update in the Magic Kingdom- the addition of Joe Biden to the Hall of Presidents!

EPCOT

What new rides are opening in EPCOT in 2021? Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

EPCOT is set to be the host park for WDW’s 50th anniversary and was originally scheduled to have a lot of new additions in place by then. However, like in other parks, 2020 has led to delays and cancellations. There will still be new attractions opening in the park in 2021, the first of which is going to be Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France Pavilion. The trackless dark ride is coming to EPCOT from Disneyland Paris, where it is a fan favorite. Originally scheduled for a 2020 opening, Disney has confirmed Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will open in 2021! Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind is another attraction that was in the works at EPOCT for the anniversary celebration. While we are hoping to see the new Guardians attraction in late 2021, due to delays in shooting the film, it is possible that the attraction won’t open until 2022. Also, keep an eye out for reservations at EPCOT’s new restaurant Space 220 which expected to open in 2021!

New Disneyland Paris Ride Opening in 2021: Frozen, Star Wars and Marvel expansions

Disney recently announced a $2.5 billion Disneyland Paris expansion featuring Star Wars, Frozen & Marvel. The first phase of this expansion will begin in 2021 and the project will continue through 2024. It’s anticipated that the Iron Man and Avengers overhaul of the Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster will debut sometime in 2021 as part of phase 1 of the expansion. It is also possible that a Spiderman themed ride, likely like WEB Slingers in Disneyland Park, will open around the same time!

Disney Village

Similar to Disney Springs or Downtown Disney, Disney Village consists of shopping and dining. With France’s coronavirus restrictions still in place, Disney has announced that Disney Village will remain closed until February 12th, 2021. Hopefully, they will be able to open again sometime in 2021!

Tokyo Disney Resort

Often referred to as one of the best theme parks in the world, Tokyo Disney Resort isn’t slowing down anytime soon! New attractions are in the works at Disneyland and DisneySea in Tokyo.

Tokyo Disneyland just opened “New Fantasyland”, an expansion featuring two attractions. Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast opened in September. According to the Disney website “Guests will board enchanted serving dishes and follow Belle on a romantic musical adventure, where she dances her way into the heart of the Beast just in time to break the fateful spell.” In the first months being open, Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast is receiving stellar reviews from guests. The second attraction in Fantasyland is The Happy Ride with Baymax opened in September as well. This ride is similar to Alien Swirling Saucers at Disney World and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree at Disneyland. The Happy Ride with Baymax is the first ride ever based on Big Hero 6!

An 8th port is coming to Tokyo DisneySea! Fantasy Springs is slated to be the largest expansion at the park since it opened 37 years ago. This port will feature two Peter Pan based attractions, a Tangled attraction, and a Frozen attraction. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until 2023 to visit Fantasy Springs.

Shanghai Disneyland Park

Which New Rides Are Opening in 2021 at Shanghai Disneyland: Zootopia

Zootopia is under construction at Shanghai Disneyland! This new land will immerse guests into the city Zootopia from the 2016 film. The only details that have been released about the attraction are that “it will seamlessly blend Disney storytelling and state-of-the-art technology to bring this fan-favorite movie and its characters to life.” Speculation is that this could include augmented reality! Unfortunately, there is no timeline for this project, but it isn’t likely until 2022 or 2023.

Hong Kong Disneyland

What News Rides Are Coming to Disney Parks Next Year: Arendelle in Hong Kong Disneyland

Arendelle is coming to Hong Kong! A Frozen expansion is scheduled to open at Disneyland in Hong Kong in 2021. This expansion will feature Frozen Ever After from EPCOT along with an original attraction, Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleigh!
