Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando offer immersive, thrilling experiences, from rides to attractions to hotels, and are ever-expanding. From Marvel, Harry Potter, the Simpsons, Minions, and Jurassic Park, you can find some of the coolest entertainment on both coasts in their parks. Add in the CityWalk dining and shopping districts and Islands of Adventure, and it’s easy to see why Universal has become the cool-kid powerhouse of the theme park world, which will only become increasingly true in the next few years.
With the opening of Super Nintendo World and Epic Universe on the horizon, 2023-2025 are slated to be major years of growth for Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando. Perfecting the Magic will be there for it all, and to help you plan your upcoming trips, we’re revealing what’s coming to the Universal Parks in the next three years.
Here’s what you can expect!
2023 will bring a new world to Universal’s west coast park, and Nintendo fans should be prepared to get excited!
Super Nintendo World Opens in Universal Studios Hollywood
The long-awaited Super Nintendo World will open on February 17, 2023, at Universal Studios Hollywood, and we’re hyped! The world will feature Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, where guests rush along the iconic courses they love with their Mario faves, throw coins (and shells!), and wiz around throughout a new interactive gameplay.
Speaking of gameplay, we’re excited to share that the land will feature Power-Up Bands for purchase. These bands will sync up with the free Universal Studios Hollywood app and allow guests to keep scores, collect coins and keys through challenges, and will feature six bold colorways. Power-Up Bands will be available for purchase throughout the land and through CityWalk shops.
If you’re in the mood for a snack in the park, be sure to check out the Toadstool Café for themed treats of American fare (think burgers and peach cupcakes) that will fill you up in no time. Of course, no Super Nintendo World would be complete without meeting Mario and his friends IRL (hey Princess Peach!) and stopping to take a few pics. You’ll be able to do all that and more in this highly-anticipated land.
More of a Minions fan? Universal has you covered.
Villain-Con Minion Blast Comes to Universal Orlando
Summer 2023 will welcome Villain-Con Minion Blast, a competitive shooting game, to Universal Orlando. The attraction will reward villainous behavior with a targeted point system that takes guests through familiar vignettes and scenes from the popular Minions franchise and encourages them to best their competition to rise in the villain ranks.
Villain-Con Minion Blast will be part of a more expansive Minion land that includes the current Minion Mayhem and an all-new Minion-themed café that will feature classics like grilled cheese and twists like Nutella-laced banana pudding. Yum!
We look forward to this land expansion and think it will be a fun addition to the Universal Orlando theme park!
Universal’s plans for 2024 are a bit mysterious, but we have some intel to point us in the right direction. Here are some rumored additions said to be coming to the parks in 2024.
Is a Fast and the Furious Roller Coaster coming to Universal Studios Hollywood?
A rumored Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift-inspired coaster is rumored to be coming to Universal Studios Hollywood in 2024. The track is said to begin in the upper lot of the park and finish down in the lower lot. While construction will likely be paused until after Super Nintendo World is open to guests, we’ll keep you posted once information is available surrounding this exciting rumored addition.
A Secret Life of Pets Ride Clone or DreamWorks Expansion?
A clone of the Secret Life of Pets ride from Universal Studios Hollywood may be coming to Universal Orlando in 2024. If not, we expect a DreamWorks expansion of attractions surrounding beloved characters like Shrek or the animals from Madagascar. There’s room for show and attraction expansion in the area, and we’ll be watching announcements closely to keep you up to date.
If these additions feel a little underwhelming, don’t worry, there’s so much in store for 2025!
2025 will be one of Universal’s biggest years yet, with the expansion of a brand-new park.
Epic Universe to Open in Universal Orlando Summer 2025
2025 will be huge for Universal Orlando, when its newest park, Epic Universe, opens to the public. When we say huge, we mean it. The massive expansion will be located about 15 minutes from the existing park and will take up over 750 acres of space!
The central hub is expected to feature a water-spinning ride (think amped-up tea cups) and a dueling roller coaster track that is rumored to be space-themed.
In addition to the hub attractions, guests will enjoy all-new lands themed after favorites like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, Donkey Kong, and Universal Monsters like the Wolf Man, Dracula, the Mummy, and Frankenstein.
Rumored land highlights include a Parisian-inspired Wizarding World environment, a British Ministry of Magic-based Harry Potter attraction that sounds incredibly cool, a spinning coaster inspired by the Wolf Man himself, and a How to Train Your Dragon roller coaster that will be family-friendly while still maintaining thrills.
Epic Universe is slated to be one of the most exciting theme park launches in recent memory, and we can’t wait to take you along for the ride as more information is shared about this incredible new addition to Universal parks.
